Position Overview:
We areseeking a proactive and technically skilled Breakdown Recovery Mechanic to joinour team. The ideal candidate will respond to vehicle breakdowns, performon-site diagnosis and minor repairs, arrange vehicle recovery, and providetechnical support during company events and operations. You will ensure safe,timely, and professional service, supporting smooth operations and maintaininghigh standards of customer care.
This position operates on a shift-basedschedule, including weekends and public holidays, to ensure 24-hour responsecoverage for vehicle recovery operations.
Responsibilities:
1. Breakdown & Recovery Operations
- Attend to vehicle breakdowns and roadside assistance calls promptly.
- Perform on-site diagnosis and basic mechanical or electrical repairs where possible.
- Arrange and execute vehicle towing or recovery when on-site repair is not feasible.
- Ensure vehicles are safely recovered to workshop or designated location.
- Complete breakdown and recovery reports accurately.
2. Customer Support
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers during breakdown situations.
- Provide basic explanation of faults and next steps to customers.
- Ensure customer safety and comfort while waiting for recovery support.
3. Event & Operational Support
- Provide technical and recovery standby support during company events, roadshows, and test drive activities.
- Assist in vehicle preparation and inspection before and after events.
- Support logistics for vehicle movement, loading, and unloading when required.
4. Vehicle & Equipment Management
- Ensure recovery tools, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained and in good working condition.
- Perform daily checks on recovery vehicle, tools, and safety equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of recovery vehicle.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow company SOPs and traffic safety regulations during recovery operations.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safety cones during roadside operations.
- Adhere to workplace safety and risk management procedures.
6. Reporting & Coordination
- Update operations team on recovery status and job completion.
- Record breakdown cases, recovery times, and repair actions taken.
- Coordinate with workshop and customer service teams for follow-up actions.
7. Any other adhoc tasks as assigned by Service Manager
Requirements:
- NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in breakdown recovery or automotive repair (ICE/EV preferred).
- Possess a valid Class 2B or Class 3 driving license
- Basic knowledge of vehicle electrical and mechanical systems.
- Able to work shifts, weekends, and on standby (on-call duty).
- Able to work roadside in all weather conditions.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Safety-conscious and able to work independently.
Preferred Skills (Added Advantage):
- Experience with EV vehicles and high-voltage safety.
- Knowledge of GPS, job dispatch systems, or service apps. (Future)
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor and roadside work environment.
- Rotating shifts and standby duties required. Night-time standby may require recovery work if no recovery is needed at night, the candidate may be assigned normal day-time mechanic duties.
- Exposure to traffic and weather conditions.
