Job Overview

The Branch Manager will be fully responsible for the daily operations, sales performance, manpower management, inventory control, and customer service standards of the minimart. This position requires strong leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to handle high-pressure retail environments. The Manager must ensure the branch runs efficiently, maintains stock accuracy, and meets both operational and sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational & Store Management

  • Oversee full daily operations of the minimart to ensure smooth functioning and proper opening & closing procedures.

  • Enforce company policies, SOPs, cleanliness standards, and safety requirements at all times.

  • Conduct regular floor inspections to ensure merchandising standards, product display, and stock rotation (FIFO) are adhered to.

  • Handle escalated customer issues, complaints, and service recovery promptly and professionally.

2. Sales & Performance Management

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance and take proactive actions to meet or exceed sales targets.

  • Identify slow-moving or high-demand products and work with the purchasing team to optimise product mix.

  • Implement sales strategies, promotions, and marketing activities to improve customer traffic and revenue.

  • Analyse sales reports to identify trends, operational gaps, and improvement areas.

3. Inventory Control & Purchasing

  • Lead the full cycle of inventory management: stock taking, variance investigation, replenishment, and wastage control.

  • Ensure ordering is done accurately and timely to avoid stock shortages or overstocking.

  • Source suppliers and assist in negotiating better pricing for daily-use products (e.g., canned food, shampoo, household products).

  • Maintain strict accountability of stock accuracy and prevent pilferage or loss.

4. Manpower Management

  • Coordinate work schedules, assign daily duties, and ensure adequate manpower coverage, including weekends and public holidays.

  • Monitor employee performance, enforce discipline, and handle staff issues professionally.

  • Train, mentor, and evaluate staff to uphold work quality, customer service standards, and store productivity.

  • Stand in and perform frontline duties when employees are absent or during manpower shortages.

5. Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare operational reports including sales summaries, inventory variances, and manpower updates.

  • Ensure compliance with all licensing, hygiene, and regulatory requirements.

  • Report any operational irregularities, safety risks, or financial discrepancies to management immediately.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in retail operations, minimart management, or dormitory retail environment (mandatory).

  • Strong leadership with the ability to manage, train, and motivate a diverse team.

  • Able to work weekends and Public Holidays (day shifts).

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Physically demanding and able to stand for long hours during operation.

  • High level of responsibility and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must demonstrate discipline, accountability, and strong operational awareness.
