We are partnering with an established energy and commodities trading group with a strong presence across Asia-Pacific. As part of its regional expansion strategy, the company is seeking a Bitumen Trader to establish and grow its commercial footprint in Singapore, focusing on physical bitumen and asphalt trading across Southeast Asia and selected export markets.
Role
Reporting to the Head of Trading, the Bitumen Trader will be responsible for developing and executing physical bitumen trading strategies across Asia-Pacific markets. The role will focus on originating and managing customer relationships with road contractors, infrastructure developers, government agencies, asphalt plants, distributors, and trading counterparties. The incumbent will identify new market opportunities, negotiate sales and supply agreements, manage pricing and commercial terms, and drive business growth across key markets in Asia. The Bitumen Trader will work closely with operations, shipping, and logistics teams to ensure seamless cargo execution and delivery performance. Responsibilities include monitoring regional supply-demand dynamics, refinery economics, freight markets, and infrastructure spending trends to identify arbitrage and trading opportunities. The role will also involve managing commercial risks, maintaining market intelligence, supporting contract negotiations, and contributing to strategic decisions regarding market expansion and customer development.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Business or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in physical commodities trading is preferred, with direct exposure to bitumen, asphalt, base oils or refined products. Proven experience developing customer relationships and generating commercial opportunities within Southeast Asian markets will be highly advantageous. Existing relationships with infrastructure contractors, distributors, government procurement bodies, or regional trading counterparties would be viewed favourably. The successful individual will demonstrate strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial drive, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced trading environment while managing multiple commercial activities simultaneously.
