Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Bio-Process Engineer/Technician to support the development and scale-up of bioleaching processes for the recycling of industrial waste using bacteria or other microorganisms. The roleinvolves conducting laboratory- and pilot-scale experiments, managing process flows to produce pregnant leach solutions, and evaluating key technical parameters to support process optimization and scale-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conduct laboratory-scale experiments on the bioleaching of industrial waste using bacteria or other microorganisms.
- Prepare, operate, and monitor bioleaching systems (e.g., flasks, bioreactors, leaching columns) under controlled conditions.
- Handle and manage the overall process flow from feedstock preparation through bioleaching to obtain pregnant leach solutions (PLS).
- Monitor and analyze critical process parameters such as pH, temperature, redox potential, microbial activity, metal recovery rates, and leaching kinetics.
- Scale experiments from laboratory scale to pilot-line level, evaluating process performance, reproducibility, and scalability.
- Collect, analyze, and document experimental data to support process optimization and decision-making.
- Assist in the development, improvement, and standardization of bioleaching protocols and operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, chemical handling, and environmental regulations.
- Support cross-functional or ad hoc projects related to bio-process development, equipment trials, or technology evaluation as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field. 1-2 years experience preferred. Fresh graduate are also welcome to apply.
- Hands-on experience with microbial processes, fermentation, bioleaching, or related biochemical/bioprocess operations.
- Familiarity with laboratory-scale bioreactors, process monitoring, and analytical techniques.
- Understanding of mass balances, process flows, and basic scale-up principles.
- Strong experimental, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Skills (Optional)
- Experience with hydrometallurgy, metal recovery, or recycling of electronic waste or batteries.
- Experience in pilot-scale operations or technology scale-up.
- Knowledge of process control, data analysis tools, or process simulation.
- Exposure to GLP, GMP, or industrial R&D environments.
