Job Description: BigFix L3 Engineer - Middleware Patching

Role Summary

Responsible for managing and executing middleware and pilot patching activities using BigFix, ensuring a controlled and secure rollout from sandbox to pilot and production environments across large enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

. Plan and execute middleware pilot patching waves for Windows, Linux, and Unix endpoints.
. Design, create, and manage baselines, fixlets, and custom actions.
. Perform pre-patch checks, deployment, post-patch validation, and rollback activities.
. Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to define and validate pilot device cohorts.
. Troubleshoot patch deployment issues including relay health, client logs, and download failures.
. Monitor compliance dashboards, pilot telemetry, and manage exception requests.
. Escalate critical patch failures, provide root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
. Provide weekend or off-hours support during scheduled patching windows.
. Integrate patching activities with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for RFC, approval, and change tracking.

Required Skills & Experience

. 7+ years of experience in BigFix administration with a strong enterprise patching background (A Must).
. Hands-on expertise in Relevance, Action Script, baseline management, and pilot cohort design.
. Strong operating system patching knowledge across Windows and Linux middleware stacks.
. Proven experience managing pilot patching waves and progressing to full production rollout.
. In-depth troubleshooting experience with FillDB, relay/root server health, and client evaluation loops.
. Automation and reporting skills using PowerShell and/or Python.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

. Middleware pilot wave success rate above 95% with no rollbacks.
. Compliance with critical and high-severity patch SLAs (e.g., within 14 days).
. Continuous reduction of non-reporting endpoints during pilot and patching cycles.
