Job Description

Summary:

The BD & Marketing Executive is a key team member within the Marketing Department. The Executive supports a range of office, regional and firmwide marketing and client engagement initiatives designed to elevate the Firm's profile and help lawyers connect with clients. They take an active role in learning about the service offering, lawyers, and clients of the office/region, and work closely with colleagues across offices and functions to coordinate a range of integrated marketing efforts. They also support assigned practice and/or industry groups with a variety of business development and marketing projects, as described below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Engagement

  • Works with lawyers and marketing colleagues to plan and execute Firm sponsored and hosted client events:
  • Identifies event and sponsorship opportunities aligned with the Firm's office/regional practices and industries
  • Develops appropriate invitation lists and seeks relevant approvals
  • Creates invitations in collaboration with the design team, distributes invitations, and processes registrations
  • Coordinates the production of event materials
  • Coordinates pre-event planning and post-event debrief meetings with stakeholders
  • Defines event metrics to measure ROI
  • Supports office/regional client entertainment activities
  • Assists with drafting and reviewing lawyer biographies for Sidley.com
  • Liaises with lawyers to produce and distribute internal and external marketing communications, including new lawyer announcements and newsletters
  • Drafts regional news announcements and other content for the intranet, website, and social media platforms
  • Helps identify relevant speaking and other credentialing opportunities for office/regional lawyers and assists in the production of required materials
  • Leverages firm technology such as SalesForce (campaign and project management), InterAction (contact relationship management), and Foundation (experience management) to document and track marketing activity
  • Collaborates with the Creative team to produce marketing materials related to sponsorships and advertisements
  • Performs research and data collection on clients and contacts, industries, and competitors, as requested
  • Assists in training lawyers and professional staff on InterAction, LinkedIn, and other marketing related tools

Practice and Client Development (Including Pitches and Proposals)

  • Assists in the preparation of new business proposals and capability pitches, as well as formal RFP responses
  • Maintains the groups business development infrastructure (e.g., written collateral, experience database/matter lists, contact lists, opportunity tracking, etc.), exercising an acute level of quality control to ensure that all marketing collateral, communications, matter lists and other materials are consistent, error-free, and up to date
  • Supports the preparation and submission of rankings, awards, surveys, league tables, and other recognitions for assigned groups
  • Updates practice/industry information on the Firm's website and intranet site, and coordinates occasional external republication
  • Helps write and edit practice/industry group descriptions, lawyer biographies, and client presentations to support the Firm's business development pursuits
  • Supports special projects as requested by Marketing Department management and regional lawyers

Qualification Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • A minimum of two (2) years of marketing, business development, program planning, and/or other relevant experience
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook

Preferred:

  • Marketing or business development experience in a law firm or other professional services organization
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship, pipeline, and experience management databases such as InterAction, Salesforce, and/or Foundation
  • Familiarity with relevant company/market research tools, as well as law firm rankings, awards, and league table publications
  • Fluent Chinese language skills (written and spoken)
