Job Description

Position Overview

As the Senior Manager - Embedded software/system battery Pack Design, you will lead the architecture and development of next-generation battery systems for electric mobility platforms across the ASEAN region. This role requires strong expertise in lithium-ion battery technologies, battery management systems (BMS), thermal management, safety engineering, and system integration for connected EV ecosystems.

You will be responsible for driving the end-to-end battery pack development lifecycle, from concept design and simulation to validation, homologation, and production readiness. The role also involves close collaboration with software, embedded systems, manufacturing, and global engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-performance EV battery solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Battery System Architecture & Engineering

  • Lead the design and development of high-energy-density, thermally optimized, and safety-compliant battery packs for electric mobility platforms.
  • Architect cell-to-module-to-pack configurations using advanced lithium-ion chemistries including NMC, LFP, and LMFP.
  • Develop lightweight and durable battery enclosures optimized for vibration resistance, thermal performance, and environmental protection.
  • Utilize advanced engineering and simulation tools for thermal analysis, structural FEA, crash simulation, and performance optimization.
  • Drive battery system scalability, modularity, and manufacturability for future EV platform expansion.

2. Battery Management System (BMS) & Vehicle Integration

  • Collaborate with embedded software and electronics teams to integrate battery systems with BMS, motor controllers, powertrains, and CAN-based communication networks.
  • Support development and optimization of SOC/SOH estimation algorithms, diagnostics, telemetry, and fault management systems.
  • Ensure seamless integration between hardware, firmware, and connected vehicle platforms.
  • Conduct DFMEA, validation testing, and system-level integration reviews to ensure product reliability and safety.

3. Thermal Management & Functional Safety

  • Design advanced thermal propagation mitigation systems and passive safety mechanisms for battery packs.
  • Develop thermal management strategies suitable for high-temperature, high-humidity, and urban mobility operating conditions.
  • Lead safety validation activities including thermal runaway prevention, mechanical shock testing, vibration testing, immersion testing, and abuse testing.
  • Ensure compliance with functional safety and battery reliability standards across global EV markets.

4. Supplier Management & Technology Innovation

  • Collaborate with global battery cell manufacturers and technology partners to evaluate emerging cell chemistries and battery technologies.
  • Assess supplier capabilities related to battery manufacturing processes, quality systems, traceability, and scalability.
  • Introduce innovative materials, thermal solutions, and structural technologies to improve battery performance, durability, and safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy density, charging performance, lifecycle optimization, and cost efficiency.

5. Compliance, Standards & Homologation

  • Lead battery pack compliance and certification activities aligned with international standards such as AIS-156, UNECE R136, ISO-12405, and ASEAN EV regulations.
  • Prepare and manage validation plans, certification documentation, and regulatory submissions.
  • Coordinate with external testing agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure successful homologation and product approvals.

6. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with software engineering, embedded systems, manufacturing, quality assurance, and after-sales teams across global locations.
  • Support DFM/DFA initiatives to enable efficient large-scale production and assembly.
  • Provide technical expertise for field diagnostics, warranty analysis, root-cause investigations, and continuous product improvements.
  • Mentor engineering teams and contribute to technical capability development within the organization.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Battery Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Work Experience

  • Proven experience in battery pack design and industrialization for electric vehicles or energy storage systems.
  • Strong background in battery safety engineering, thermal management, and EV system integration.
  • Experience working on battery validation, homologation, and production-scale deployment projects.
  • Exposure to ASEAN, India, or global EV markets is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Deep expertise in battery pack architecture, lithium-ion cell technologies, thermal management, and safety engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in CAE tools for thermal simulation, structural analysis, vibration analysis, and crash simulation.
  • Experience with advanced validation methodologies including DFMEA, DVPR, lifecycle testing, abuse testing, and reliability engineering.
  • Good understanding of BMS architectures, CAN communication protocols, SOC/SOH algorithms, and diagnostic systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems integration, connected vehicle technologies, and EV software ecosystems is preferred.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multicultural environments.
  • Self-driven, innovative, and adaptable in fast-paced technology environments.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration capabilities with global engineering teams.
