Job Description

Description

We are partnering with an established international metals trading and industrial group with a growing presence across Asia-Pacific. As part of its continued expansion within the base metals sector, the company is seeking a Base Metals Trader to strengthen its trading platform in Singapore, focusing on the sourcing, execution, and management of third-party physical and paper trading activities across global base metals markets.

Role

Reporting to the Head of Trading, the Base Metals Trader will be responsible for developing and executing physical and paper trading strategies across key base metals markets, including copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, nickel, and related products. The role will focus on originating and managing relationships with producers, smelters, refiners, merchants, consumers, and trading counterparties to identify and execute profitable trading opportunities. In addition, the trader will manage paper positions through exchange-traded and OTC instruments, supporting both hedging and proprietary trading activities within approved risk limits. Responsibilities include monitoring market fundamentals, supply-demand balances, inventory movements, regional arbitrage opportunities, and macroeconomic developments impacting metals markets. The role will also involve maintaining market intelligence, expanding the company's commercial network, identifying new trading opportunities, supporting contract negotiations, and contributing to strategic decisions regarding portfolio growth and market expansion.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Business or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in physical and/or paper commodities trading is preferred, with direct exposure to base metals markets. Proven experience sourcing and managing third-party trading flows, developing commercial relationships, and generating profitable trading opportunities will be highly advantageous. Existing relationships with producers, consumers, merchants, traders, and industrial counterparties within the non-ferrous metals sector would be viewed favourably. The successful individual will demonstrate strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial drive, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced trading environment while effectively managing risk, market exposure, and multiple trading activities simultaneously.
