Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java to support enterprise applications and high-volume transaction systems.

2. Develop and optimise database queries, stored procedures, and reporting solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

3. Build and maintain PEGA platform integrations, including API services, data management layers, and workflow automation within PEGA Infinity 23 and above.

4. Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end software solutions aligned with business requirements.

5. Implement cloud-native backend services using modern infrastructure practices including containerisation with Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes.

6. Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable automated testing, integration, and deployment using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD.

7. Ensure database reliability, performance, and security, including administration, tuning, indexing strategies, and high availability configurations.

8. Monitor and maintain application performance and system observability using monitoring tools such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and ELK Stack.

9. Participate actively in Agile development processes (Scrum / Kanban), contributing to sprint planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

10. Develop and maintain automated tests and quality assurance processes, utilising frameworks such as JUnit to ensure software reliability and maintainability.

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

2. Strong proficiency in Java programming, with proven experience developing scalable backend systems.

3. Solid experience in Microsoft SQL Server, database optimisation, and reporting tools such as SSRS.

4. Hands-on experience with PEGA platform development (Infinity 23 or above) including integrations and API management.

5. Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS), containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based version control workflows.
