Backend Engineer – Design Tooling

Overview

We're hiring a Backend Engineer Design Tooling to build and scale internal web platforms and workflow automation systems within a global technology environment. You'll focus on backendheavy services that reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and support internal applications at scale, with a strong emphasis on reliability, security, and delivery ownership.

This role offers strong autonomy. You'll work across backend services, infrastructure collaboration, and CI/CD pipelines, owning systems from design through production. Frontend requirements are lightweight and functional, relying on existing frameworks, while most complexity and impact sit in the backend and operational layers. This position suits engineers who enjoy working from ambiguity, identifying opportunities for automation, and delivering practical improvements in real production systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build backendfocused web services and internal platforms using Python
• Develop and maintain internal APIs that support platform enablement and automation use cases
• Identify opportunities to automate manual or repetitive processes and translate them into scalable backend services
• Design and implement systems that standardize workflows and reduce operational overhead across internal applications
• Own systems across the full lifecycle, from technical design through deployment and ongoing support
• Partner with infrastructure teams on hosting, security, authorization, and compliance
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe iteration and deployment
• Contribute lightweight frontend components using existing frameworks when required
• Ensure systems meet standards for reliability, scalability, and operational readiness
• Work with stakeholders across regions to translate requirements into clear technical solutions
• Document system design decisions and best practices to support longterm maintainability

Requirements

• Strong experience in backend engineering, with Python in production environments
• Solid understanding of web application architecture and API design
• Handson experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
• Practical understanding of security, authorization, and production readiness
• Experience collaborating with infrastructure or platform teams
• Comfortable owning systems endtoend, including operational responsibility
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly
• Experience working effectively in distributed or global teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with React or similar frontend frameworks (internal, functional UIs)
• Background in internal tooling, automation platforms, or enablement systems
• Exposure to AIassisted development tools (nonspecialist usage)
• Familiarity with monitoring, observability, or reliability practices
• Experience operating in environments with compliance or security constraints
