Responsibility
Platform Operations Engineer will be working with government agency officers to maintain and support agency critical cloud platforms and infrastructure hosted at Microsoft Azure Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) environment, including related Windows Server platform services. This role focuses on ensuring platform scalability and reliability, implementing modern operational practices, and supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives while maintaining robust support for existing agency systems. You will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the stability and efficiency of essential government agency IT infrastructure and cloud-hosted agency workloads.
- Maintain critical infrastructure platforms including compute, storage, virtualisation, and supporting systems including Azure GCC landing-zone resources and Windows Server platform services across development, staging and production environments.
- Follow and implement platform standards, executing infrastructure automation and modern operational practices including Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible to adopt cloud automation.
- Support platform enhancement initiatives and implementation of new infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with govenrment enterprise architecture standards and GCC-provided guardrails.
- Manage cloud platform GCC Azure including capacity monitoring, performance optimisation, and operating system lifecycle management.
- Implement and maintain robust monitoring and observability solutions for all platform components using modern tooling (e.g., Dynatrace, ELK stack) and Azure Monitor / Azure-native monitoring tools where applicable.
- Execute platform patching strategies, leveraging automation to maintain security and stability while minimising service disruption including Windows Server patch baselines and vulnerability remediation tracking.
- Provide L2/L3 technical support for platform-related incidents, conducting problem determination and resolution for cloud infrastructure and Windows platform incidents.
- Support containerisation initiatives and maintain container orchestration platforms for traditional workloads where applicable.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices tto automate platform provisioning and configuration management with version control and peer review prior to deployment.
- Maintain backup, DR, and high-availability solutions for critical platform components including periodic DR testing and business continuity configurations
- Follow security controls implementation, including access management, security hardening, and compliance monitoring aligned to IM8, GCC Cloud Security and Governance Framework (CSGF), PDPA, Cybersecurity Act and applicable audit requirements.
- Collaborate with application teams to support platform stability, performance, and scalability requirements including workload migration, application onboarding and environment refresh activities.
- Create and maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures including architecture diagrams, service reports, patch and vulnerability logs, audit evidence, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Support team members on platform operations and modern infrastructure practices
Technical Requirements
- Strong experience with government enterprise cloud platform Microsoft Azure GCC environments
- Experience in storage systems (SAN, NAS) and enterprise backup solutions including Azure storage, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity services
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration including Active Directory integration, Group Policy, certificate services, server hardening, patch management, monitoring and troubleshooting
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) and Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Terraform
- Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms including Azure Monitor, Defender for Cloud and Sentinel
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code practices with version control, peer review and controlled deployment practices
- Understanding of networking concepts and technologies including Azure networking, private endpoints, NSGs/ASGs, hub-spoke or landing-zone topologies and GCCaligned network design standards
- Scripting abilities (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and working knowledge of DevSecOps practices for infrastructure change management
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions and vulnerability management, GCC compliance scans, VAPT remediation tracking, audit evidence gathering and compliance support
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Experience in infrastructure operations and engineering including hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure environments and Windows Server platforms in a production capacity
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure components and cloud-hosted agency-managed workloads
- Experience in supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives preferably within Azure GCC or another highly governed public-sector cloud environment
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong documentation abilities
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and ability to support hybrid work arrangements, agency security vetting, approved remote access requirements and agreed on-call or after-hours support for critical incidents
Certifications (Added Advantage)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate or equivalent Windows infrastructure certification
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- ITIL v4 Foundation
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500), or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
