The AWS Cloud Wintel / Linux Engineer (L2) provides Level 2 operational support for secure, high-availability hybrid cloud environments supporting government and GCC-aligned projects. The role focuses on administering and supporting Windows and Linux server platforms across AWS and on-premises infrastructure, ensuring compliance, resilience, and service continuity.
This position works within structured operational frameworks, supporting mission-critical systems with strong emphasis on security controls, change discipline, and documented processes. The engineer collaborates closely with Level 1 operations teams and Level 3 specialists to maintain system stability and meet service-level commitments.
Provide Level 2 support for incidents, service requests, and operational issues related to Windows and Linux servers.
Perform detailed troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions within defined escalation procedures.
Work within ITSM processes using enterprise tools such as ServiceNow or Jira.
Support government and regulated environments with adherence to operational controls and audit requirements.
Administer Windows Server platforms (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) and enterprise Linux distributions, primarily Red Hat.
Manage core infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, WSUS, and Windows Failover Clustering.
Ensure system availability, performance tuning, and capacity monitoring in line with operational standards.
Support AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, EBS, IAM, CloudWatch, and Systems Manager.
Perform instance provisioning, access control management, monitoring, and backup coordination.
Support hybrid connectivity between AWS and on-premises environments.
Execute scheduled operating system patching for Windows and Linux servers.
Apply security hardening and compliance baselines in accordance with organisational and government security standards.
Support vulnerability remediation activities, audits, and compliance reporting.
Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, and AWS CLI.
Support operational automation initiatives to improve reliability, consistency, and response times.
Assist with Infrastructure as Code practices where applicable under established governance.
Monitor system health and performance using AWS CloudWatch and enterprise monitoring tools.
Conduct OS-level diagnostics, performance optimisation, and capacity planning.
Support proactive issue identification to minimise service disruption.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience supporting AWS cloud environments.
Minimum 4 years of experience in Windows or Linux system administration in enterprise environments.
Strong experience with Windows Server (2012-2022) and Red Hat Linux.
Practical knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, IAM, EBS, CloudWatch, and Systems Manager.
Proficiency in PowerShell and or Bash scripting.
Experience with patch management, monitoring, and system security hardening.
Working knowledge of ITIL-based operations including Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
Experience supporting regulated, government, or compliance-driven environments is advantageous.
Exposure to automation tools and Infrastructure as Code concepts is a plus.
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate
ITIL Foundation or higher
Tier 2 operational support role with ownership of incident resolution.
Strong troubleshooting capability with structured escalation to Level 3 teams.
Focus on operational stability, security compliance, and continuous improvement.
