Role Description

The Automotive Forensic Engineer will be responsible for investigating automotive incidents, including fire cases, major accidents, product failures, and equipment failures. The engineer will also be required to conduct thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to determine the underlying causes of these incidents and provide comprehensive reports and recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Forensic Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive forensic engineering, incident investigation, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:

o Strong knowledge of automotive systems, components, and diagnostics.

o Proficiency in forensic investigation methods and tools.

o Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques and methodologies.

o Familiarity with accident reconstruction tools and techniques.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct detailed analysis and draw actionable conclusions from complex technical data.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report generation, presentations, and interactions with clients and legal teams.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in forensic engineering, accident reconstruction, or related fields are a plus.
  • Other Requirements:

o Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

o Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

o Willingness to travel to accident sites as needed.

o A strong understanding of safety regulations and standards in the automotive industry.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily based in the office with regular visits to accident sites and investigation locations.
  • Some travel may be required, depending on the nature of incidents.

Skills & Technical Knowledge

  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations of automotive incidents such as fires, major accidents, product failures, and equipment failures. Gather and analyse evidence to identify causes and contributing factors.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform in-depth RCA on automotive malfunctions and failures, identifying the fundamental reasons for the incidents and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Data Collection & Documentation: Collect and document all relevant information, including vehicle conditions, accident scene details, witness accounts, and any available technical data. Ensure all findings are meticulously recorded for reporting.
  • Technical Analysis: Conduct detailed technical analysis of damaged vehicles, components, and systems. Use tools such as engineering simulations, material analysis, and forensic methodologies to support investigations.
  • Collaboration with Experts: Work alongside internal teams, external experts, and legal advisors to ensure all investigations are comprehensive and meet industry standards.
  • Report Generation: Prepare and present detailed forensic reports, including findings, RCA results, technical evaluations, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Expert Testimony: Provide expert testimony in legal settings, if required, to support investigations or claims related to automotive incidents.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and suggest improvements to internal processes and procedures to enhance future incident investigations and RCA efficiency.
  • Training and Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers and technical staff on forensic investigation techniques, RCA methodologies, and best practices.
