Job Description

The Division of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies (LMS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, offers a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment for the study of language in its structural, social, cognitive, and technological dimensions. We focus on multilingualism in an Asian/Southeast Asian context. We are internationally recognized for our research on multilingualism, language diversity, and the interface between linguistics and technology.

LMS is part of the School of Humanities (SoH), within NTU Singapore's College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CoHASS), where students and scholars collaborate across fields from philosophy to design to understand how people in Asia and beyond act in, shape, and make sense of a technological world. CoHASS aims to be Asia's leading centre for innovative, interdisciplinary research and education in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

LMS invites applications for faculty appointments at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (with tenure). We welcome applications in any field of Linguistics. Applicants with demonstrated research experience in languages in the Asia-Pacific area, encompassing Southeast Asia, are especially encouraged to apply. Interest in contributing to NTU's growing focus on digital humanities and AI-driven language research will be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as related activities such as supervision of teaching practice, and thesis supervision and examination

  • develop a robust research agenda and maintain a strong publication record

  • undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and to contribute to other service-related activities at the department or institution level

  • establish partnerships with local and international researchers and practitioners to explore avenues for research and teaching that will create an impact in the discipline and/or educational practice and

  • provide mentorship to junior colleagues

  • provide academic leadership

  • contribute to external grant acquisition

  • serve in NTU committees

Successful candidates should have:

  • A PhD in Linguistics or a closely related field.

  • A strong, internationally recognized research record, evidenced by publications and other scholarly outputs of field- or world-leading quality.

  • A strong track record of grant acquisition, graduate supervision, and academic leadership.

  • A demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching excellence.
