Associate Director / Director - Mergers & Acquisitions

Your Role and Responsibilities

The Associate Director role requires a strong entrepreneurial mindset, commercial judgement, and a well developed understanding of M&A transactions. Candidates are expected to have a solid grasp of how risk is allocated between transaction parties through warranties, indemnities, and contractual limitations, and how these risks are addressed through insurance solutions.

With access to and support from the wider Howden M&A platform and its regional and global expertise, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

1. Demonstrating a deep understanding of the M&A insurance market and the risks assumed by insurers
2. Applying and championing Howden M&A's differentiated broking approach and contributing to its continued evolution and growth in Asia, especially in Korea
3. Leading transaction processes from an insurance perspective, including managing multiple live deals concurrently and advising clients with confidence and autonomy
4. Working closely with specialist tax, environmental, title, and litigation teams to structure and place complex and bespoke insurance solutions
5. Leading business development meetings and pitches with investors, legal advisers, and financial advisers, while actively originating and developing client relationships across the region

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an accomplished and commercially minded professional to join the Asia business at Associate Director level and play a meaningful role in driving the growth of the M&A platform.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• A proven background in the M&A market, with the maturity and judgement to operate as a trusted adviser to clients and their advisers
• Insurance experience that is beneficial but not required, as full technical training will be provided by Howden
• A demonstrated willingness to adopt and promote Howden's distinctive approach to M&A broking
• Written and verbal business fluency in English
• Oral business fluency in Mandarin or alternatively Korean
• A professional background with a minimum of eight years of experience in M&A gained within a leading law firm, investment bank, private equity or investment fund, Big Four firm, or comparable advisory or consultancy environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence and credibility to lead client discussions, explain complex insurance concepts, and represent Howden at senior levels
• A demonstrated ability to generate client meetings and opportunities, build long term professional relationships, and contribute visibly to the regional growth strategy from an early stage
• The ability to analyse legal documentation and due diligence reports in detail and identify the key issues that are most relevant and material to prospective insurers
