Job Description

The Associate Charterer-Optimization supports the Optimisation Manager by providing commercial analysis, market insight, decision support to enable informed chartering decision whilst also providing Chartering cover as required. The role is crafted as a development position, building the skills required for progression into a more senior chartering role in a technology-enabled environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitor freight markets, vessel supply and demand, oil export forecast in key regions with relevant trade flows.
  • Assist the Optimisation Manager in doing a weekly chartering review (tracking TCE on new fixtures, Expo, FFA positions and PnL)
  • Support evaluation of voyage opportunities using voyage economics and analytical tools.
  • Prepare concise market updates and commercial analyses for senior charterers.
  • Assist with post-fixture reviews and analysis of commercial outcomes.
  • Develop working knowledge of charter party terms, risk exposure, and compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with operations and optimisation teams, claims, and other internal teams to understand trade execution.
  • Build professional relationships with owners, brokers, and internal partners.
  • Use chartering systems, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to support commercial decision-making.
  • Provide Chartering cover as required.

Essential Education

  • 03 years experience within bp with exposure to shipping, trading, logistics, commodities, or a related commercial field.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in economics, finance, engineering, maritime studies, or a related rigor.
  • Strong curiosity about shipping markets and commercial trading environments.

Essential Experience And Job Requirements

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with commercial awareness.
  • Ability to interpret data and translate it into practical insight.
  • Good judgment, attention to detail, and risk awareness.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong learning agility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working with data, systems, and decision-support tools.
  • Strong negotiation skill
  • Good understanding of python script with intermediate to advance level of Excel

Desirable Criteria

  • Exposure to vessel operations, post-fixture, or trade execution and coordinate with trading benches.
  • Familiarity with freight markets, voyage economics, charter party concepts.
  • Experience using analytical or optimisation tools
  • Previous experience in an Expo role.
