The merger of Aviva Singapore and Singlife was announced in September 2020 and created one of the largest homegrown financial services companies in Singapore in a deal valued at S$3.2 billion. It was the largest insurance deal in Singapore at the time.

Singlife was subsequently acquired by Sumitomo Life in March 2024, one of Japan's leading life insurers, which valued Singlife at S$4.6 billion, making the transaction one of the largest insurance deals in Southeast Asia.

About The Role

The Assistant Vice President, Finance plays a critical role in supporting the Head of Finance in overseeing the company's financial management, reporting functions, and operational controls. The candidate will help maintain strong accounting systems, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and drive the financial discipline needed to support the company's growth and operational effectiveness.

In addition to core finance responsibilities, the candidate will actively contribute to financerelated projects, including system upgrades, new general ledger implementations, process enhancements, and data analysis initiatives.

Key Appointments

  • Support the Head of Finance in managing the organisation's financial reporting, accounting records, internal controls, and budgeting frameworks designed to mitigate financial risk.
  • Oversee cash management activities and support the company's statutory requirements such as regular tax filing and financial year-end audit.
  • Lead transformation initiatives, including system enhancements, process improvements, and datadriven analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls while supporting daytoday finance operations.
  • Manage general ledger controls, including balance sheet substantiation, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, monitor performance against benchmarks, and analyse variances for management review.
  • Prepare and present financial and operational metrics to support decisionmaking.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and debt repayment schedules.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper organisation of financial records.
  • Strengthen controls across all accounting transactions and ensure integrity of financial systems.
  • Coordinate audit preparation, liaise with external auditors, and ensure compliance with regulatory and tax filing requirements.
  • Drive system enhancements, process improvements, and other financerelated transformation initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to junior team members to support capability development.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • More than 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or business administration, preferably with exposure to financial reporting and operational finance.
  • A degree or diploma in accounting or finance .
  • Progress toward a CA/CPA qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong attention to detail, independence, and organizational discipline.
  • A growth mindset , with commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • A genuine interest in the financial advisory and investment industry.
