Job Description

The Assistant Vessel Operator supports the daily commercial and operational management of dry bulk vessels. Acting as a central liaison between masters, charterers, port agents, and internal teams, this role ensures safe, compliant, and cost-effective voyages.

Key Responsibilities

Voyage Monitoring & Execution

  • Monitor vessel daily progress, speed, fuel consumption, and weather routing.
  • Issue clear voyage instructions to Master upon charterparty fixing.
  • Track cargo operations (loading/discharging progress) and resolve operational delays.

Stakeholder & Vendor Communication

  • Appoint port agents, stevedores, and surveyors monitor performance and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain daily communication with Masters, Charterers, Brokers, and Port Authorities.

Documentation & Post-Fixture

  • Review and process Bills of Lading, Cargo Manifests, and Statements of Facts (SOF).Assist in calculating laytime, demurrage, and detention claims.
  • Verify and process operational invoices (disbursement accounts, port charges, bunkering).

Compliance & Bunker Support

  • Ensure compliance with IMDG, IMSBC, MARPOL, and regional environmental regulations.
  • Assist in bunker planning, procurement, and tracking fuel quality/quantity reports.

Requirements& Qualifications
Education:

  • Diploma in Maritime Studies / Maritime Business / Nautical Studies
  • NITEC / Higher NITEC in Maritime Transport & Logistics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, or equivalent field
  • Open to fresh graduates with no prior full-time experience
