About the Role

We are seeking a thoughtful and versatile journalist with sharp news sense to join a bold new regional business news platform from The Business Times (BT). This role offers the opportunity to be part of BT Global, a team shaping a new product designed to serve decision-makers across Asia and beyond.

This role is for a journalist passionate about commentary, analysis, and shaping the global conversation on Asia. The candidate will contribute to the daily opinion and features section, editing and curating a spectrum of perspectives that speak to global business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and policymakers.

This position requires excellent editorial judgment and a deep understanding of how to frame the most important business, financial and geopolitical debates of the day. Reporting to the Deputy Opinion Editor, you will work closely with contributors and journalists, assisting with the flow and logic of their arguments and ensuring all required context is presented clearly for a global audience. You will also curate compelling analyses from across a stable of news titles, delivering timely insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit and shape daily commentaries, analyses and features, ensuring they meet high standards of accuracy, clarity, insight and logical argumentation.
• Curate and repurpose opinion and analysis content from various news titles for a global audience focused on Asia's business potential.
• Collaborate with journalists to originate and shape story ideas for insightful and impactful commentaries.
• Assist in commissioning pieces from a diverse network of internal and external contributors, reflecting perspectives on key regional and global topics.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy and ensure all content handles complex and sensitive topics with the required nuance and context.

Key Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience in journalism, preferably with an emphasis on economics, politics or international relations. Experience in developing commentaries for a media organisation would be a plus.
• Proven editorial judgment and a robust news sense, with the ability to handle complex topics.
• Strong understanding of Asia's business, financial, and geopolitical landscapes, and familiarity with Singapore's stance, context and trade-offs on subjects of national interests, including but not limited to, economic and social issues.
• Strong command of written and spoken English, with high proficiency in writing and copyediting.
• Degree in economics, business, finance, social science, or other relevant fields.
• Ability to work under deadline pressure, both independently and collaboratively.
