Assistant Marine Superintendent
Job Purpose
To assist in the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of assigned vessels by supporting both deck and engine-related matters, coordinating with ship staff, managers, charterers, agents, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth vessel operations and optimum performance.
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Operations & Compliance
- Assist in the day-to-day operational and technical management of assigned vessels.
- Ensure vessels comply with company procedures, Flag State, Class, Port State, and international maritime regulations.
- Monitor vessel performance, voyage progress, fuel consumption, and operational efficiency.
- Support the implementation of Safety Management System (SMS), ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental compliance requirements.
Deck & Cargo Operations
- Monitor cargo loading and discharging operations to ensure compliance with charter party requirements and port regulations.
- Coordinate with Masters, charterers, agents, and terminals on voyage instructions and operational matters.
- Assist in voyage planning, port call preparation, and cargo documentation.
- Monitor vessel certifications, surveys, inspections, and cargo hold cleanliness requirements.
Technical & Engineering Support
- Assist in monitoring vessel machinery performance and Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Coordinate repairs, maintenance activities, and spare parts requirements with vessel crews and technical teams.
- Review engine performance reports, fuel and lubricating oil consumption, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Support dry-docking preparation, execution, and follow-up activities.
Commercial & Financial Management
- Ensure compliance with charter party terms and operational requirements.
- Monitor voyage performance, delays, off-hire incidents, and operational claims.
- Assist in budget monitoring, operating expenses (OPEX), and cost control initiatives.
- Support bunker planning and fuel management to optimize voyage efficiency.
Safety, Risk & Emergency Response
- Participate in vessel inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Assist in incident investigations, loss prevention initiatives, and corrective actions.
- Support emergency response activities and ensure timely reporting of incidents and near misses.
- Coordinate with insurers, P&I Clubs, and stakeholders on claims and operational matters.
Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination
- Prepare operational, technical, and performance reports for management review.
- Liaise with vessel crews, ship managers, charterers, agents, Class societies, and regulatory authorities.
- Maintain accurate records of vessel operations, maintenance activities, certifications, and compliance matters.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Support company initiatives, projects, training, and other duties assigned by management.
Eligibility
- Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) preferred.
- No work pass sponsorship will be provided for this position.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Studies, Marine Engineering, Marine Transportation, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in vessel operations, marine technical management, ship management, or a related maritime environment.
- Experience sailing as a Deck Officer or Marine Engineer will be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of vessel operations, technical management, charter party requirements, and maritime regulations.
- Familiarity with ISM, ISPS, MLC, Class, Flag State, Port State Control, and QHSE requirements.
- Understanding of dry-docking, vessel maintenance planning, bunker operations, and voyage management.
- Strong communication, coordination, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced shipping environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and maritime reporting systems.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
