Job Description

Join SingHealth's AI in Medicine Institute as a technical leader driving the future of healthcare through artificial intelligence. You'll architect and oversee the GAIMx Generative AI platform, bringing together multiple AI initiatives across SingHealth-Duke-NUS to create a robust, trusted, and scalable ecosystem that transforms clinical care and research.

We are seeking an Assistant Director to design, build, and oversee the technical architecture of the GAIMx platform. You'll establish AI development best practices, lead the creation of reusable and secure AI components including domain-specific foundation models, and ensure interoperability across diverse healthcare systems whilst maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance.

What You'll Do:

You will lead the end-to-end development of the GAIMx solution, managing both internal and external technical development teams whilst mentoring engineering and data science teams in healthcare technology best practices. Your role involves collaborating with clinicians, data stewards, and compliance teams to align technology with clinical outcomes, driving vendor evaluations and proof-of-concepts, and establishing development standard operating procedures and solution specifications.

You'll architect scalable, secure, cloud-based solutions across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, ensuring high availability and data compliance with HIPAA, Personal Data Protection Act, and General Data Protection Regulation standards. Additionally, you'll integrate diverse clinical, research, and operational systems through healthcare standards including Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources APIs, Health Level Seven version 2, openEHR, and Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model. Your responsibilities include designing architectures aligned with Zero Trust Security and National Institute of Standards and Technology frameworks, overseeing implementation of identity and access management, encryption, and security monitoring, whilst conducting periodic security risk assessments. You'll guide teams in microservices and API-driven architectures, lead engineering of data pipelines for healthcare data using technologies like Spark, Kafka, and Databricks, and partner with data scientists to deploy Generative AI and large language models in clinical workflows. Furthermore, you'll implement AI safety guardrails, privacy-preserving techniques such as federated learning, and drive responsible AI practices ensuring model explainability and bias mitigation.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related field
  • 15+ years in IT/Software architecture with 5+ years specifically in healthcare technology
  • Proven expertise across software engineering, data architecture, cybersecurity, and healthcare interoperability
  • Strong working knowledge of FHIR, OMOP, openEHR, and healthcare data standards
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect Expert, or GCP Professional Architect
  • Familiarity with large language models and Generative AI frameworks including LangChain, OpenAI, Hugging Face, or Vertex AI
  • Experience with clinical informatics systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech is advantageous
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards including HIPAA, HITECH, PDPA, or ISO 27001 is beneficial
  • Published work or open-source contributions in healthcare AI or interoperability is preferred
  • Strong technical leadership abilities with excellent communication skills to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach with ability to thrive in multi-stakeholder, fast-moving environments
  • High integrity and commitment to safe, ethical AI design
