Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • System Architecture & Roadmap: Design and maintain comprehensive system architecture diagrams for the freight ecosystem. Define the technical roadmap, aligning engineering initiatives with long-term business goals like scalability and digital transformation.
  • Systems Design & Documentation: Translate business requirements into comprehensive system narratives and technical design specifications. You will provide developers and vendors with detailed blueprints, including database schema designs (tables, columns, data types), UI/UX mockups, mapping logic, validation/error-handling rules, and audit logging frameworks.
  • Data Visualization & Analytics: Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and automated reports to provide logistics stakeholders with real-time visibility into freight performance, operational bottlenecks, and financial KPIs.
  • AI & Automation Engineering: Take full responsibility for the AI lifecycle, including the independent design, build, and production deployment of intelligent agents to automate manual freight processes.
  • Strategic Prioritization: Use data-driven scoring systems (e.g., RICE or WSJF) to prioritize the team's workload and balance new features against maintenance, security, and stability requirements.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Bridge the gap between freight operations and engineering by deconstructing complex needs (e.g., customs compliance, real-time tracking) into actionable user stories and technical specs.
  • KPI Management: Define and track critical technical and business KPIs (e.g., system uptime, API response times). Conduct post-implementation audits to measure operational improvements.
  • Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Oversee integration with 3rd-party logistics platforms, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and freight vendors, managing technical relationships and SLAs.

Technical & Operational Requirements

  • Technical Design: Expert-level ability to translate business needs into logical/physical data models and detailed functional specifications for developers.
  • Integrations: Hands-on experience architecting/managing integrations using RESTful APIs, SOAP, webhooks, and EDI standards (e.g., ANSI X12, EDIFACT).
  • Data Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SQL for querying complex relational databases.
  • Business Intelligence: Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and report development to translate complex logistics data into executive-level insights.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Working knowledge of cloud-native environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • API Lifecycle: Experience managing the full API lifecycle, including documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, and monitoring.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Experience integrating systems with customs platforms (e.g., TradeNet) and ensuring adherence to data privacy standards (GDPR, PDPA).
  • Logistics Domain: Deep understanding of the cargo lifecycle, including multi-modal routing and freight audit/payment workflows.
  • Automation Engineering: Proven track record of building complex automated workflows using both n8n and Microsoft Power Platform to handle logistics exceptions and reduce manual operations.
  • AI Agent Development: Experience building and deploying autonomous agents, including local LLM integration (Ollama, Qwen, etc) and prompt engineering to automate complex freight tasks.

Strategic & Soft Skills

  • Change Management: Ability to lead technical transitions, including staff training, system migrations, and go-live support.
  • Vendor Strategy: Capability to execute RFP/RFI processes for selecting vendors, focusing on technical flexibility and long-term supportability.
  • Agile Proficiency: High level of expertise in Jira/Confluence for managing backlogs and cross-team dependencies.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5–10 years in product management, with at least 3 years in a technical role within logistics or freight forwarding.
  • Preferred: Past experience as a software developer/data engineer, or industry certifications (PMP, CSPO, CSCP).
