Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Accounting Manager (Commodity Trading Company)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and self-driven Assistant Accounting Manager to lead and support our finance function within a coal and biomass trading environment. This role is primarily focused on accounting and financial management, with secondary responsibility to provide backup support for trading documentation and operations when required.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and willing to contribute beyond core responsibilities, including administrative support on an ad hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance (Primary Focus)

  • Assist in managing the full set of accounts, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and General Ledger (GL)
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
  • Monitor cash flow, banking transactions, and working capital requirements
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable accounting standards
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, and banks

Trading Documentation & Operations (Backup Support)

  • Provide backup support for trade documentation during peak periods, staff absence, or when required
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing trade-related documents (e.g. contracts, invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin)
  • Support coordination with traders, suppliers, customers, and logistics providers to ensure timely documentation flow
  • Ensure documents are aligned with contractual terms and trade finance requirements (e.g. Letters of Credit)
  • Maintain proper filing and records when assisting with documentation tasks

Administrative & Ad Hoc Support

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the team as needed
  • Assist in document management, coordination, and general office matters
  • Support process improvements and strengthening of internal controls
  • Handle ad hoc assignments and cross-functional tasks as required by management

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Accountancy or any related course
  • Knowledge in XERO Accounting will be an advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office Application
  • Self-driven, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Meticulous, organised and detailed-oriented
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
