Job Description

Palomar Singapore Innovation Center seeks an Applications Engineer to join the team that runs our Applications and Assembly Services operation. Expertise in Palomar equipment, with an emphasis on die attach processes, including programming and knowledge of advanced packaging materials is required. Additionally, candidate must be willing to develop expertise on wire bond and vacuum reflow processes. Being part of the small Palomar Singapore Applications team requires that each person where multiple hats in our Application lab.

NB: The Palomar laboratory operates during regular business hours but at times there will be projects that may require overtime.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

o Lead die attach process development, material selection and programming on Palomar Die Bonders.

Equipment: Models 3880 and 6500

o Supporting Wire bond and vacuum reflow process development, material selection and programming on Palomar equipment.

Equipment: Models 8100 and 5100, SCI Plasma

o Receive and inspect incoming samples and preparing the samples for testing using various types of methodology equipment and performing sample testing, including measurement, pull and shear testing using the appropriate methodology equipment, document, cleanse and release final report.

Equipment: Royce 650 Tester, Sonix CSAM, Keyence VHX-6000

Key Job Duties & Skill Requirements:

o Working knowledge of material science, specifically different solder types, alloy compositions, epoxies, ceramics and other common advanced packaging materials, and how they behave under differing time, temperature and force conditions.

o The ability to independently perform Pre-Sale applications address customers complex assembly problems, considering customer materials, specifications, and different packaging techniques as well as the capability of Palomar equipment to solve relevant challenges.

o Strong communication skills in order to liaise with customers on new projects, collect and assemble customer technical requirements and then work to develop a planned solution using the Palomar equipment and equipment process capabilities.

o Ability to plan and design process for customer sample(s) builds, including development of the necessary programs using Palomar Bonders and SST vacuum reflow ovens. This includes brainstorming ideas with the Applications team, using critical thinking skills with practical implementation.

o Support team in maintaining clean equipment, laboratory

Other duties will include:

- Conducting tests

- QA inspection of samples

- Processing samples

- Analyze Application results

- Monitor test results and analyze them to observe any trends, findings, or anomalies.

- Evaluating new vendors and conducting vendor qualification

- Performing a variety of administrative tasks pertaining to advanced micro-optical electronic assembly and packaging

- Preparing the samples, tools & materials, performing customer sample builds, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and tools after sample test and data collection

- Emergency travel around the region to support customers (rare, but may be required from time to time)

Skills, Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferred Minimum Diploma holder(preferred but not required diploma in science and engineering related fields)
  • Die Attach process experience, 5 year minimum
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written - English
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion
  • Ability to comprehend and understand complex instructions brainstorm with team on application challenge approaches
  • Ability to maintain focus on technical details throughout the course of a normal business day
  • Able and willing to maintain strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory results and records.
  • Excellent computer skills. Proficient to use Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
