Application Engineer APAC (SEA, FE & Oceania)

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or similar (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3+ years in a technical customer (Application Engineer, Sales Engineer, Project Engineer, or similar) in automation, pneumatics, robotics, or industrial equipment.
  • Preferable if having a good understanding of:
    • Vacuum technology and/or pneumatics (pumps, ejectors, suction cups, flow, pressure, leakage)
    • Automation and robotics (EOAT design, robot payload and cycle-time, safety basics)
    • Industrial environments (OEMs, integrators, end users).
  • Basic calculation/simulation for sizing and verification.
  • Good level of customer communication skills, able to explain complex technical topics in a clear, business‑oriented way.
  • Comfortable working in an international environment and in English (other languages are a plus).
  • Willingness to travel to customers, distributors, and Piab locations as needed.

Application Engineer APAC (SEA, FE & Oceania)

Role mission – Application Engineer, South East Asia / Far East / Oceania

The mission of the Application Engineer for South East Asia, Far East and Oceania is to drive profitable growth by turning customer automation challenges into high‑performing, energy‑efficient vacuum solutions, acting as the primary technical partner to regional sales, key customers, and channel partners.

The Role Does This By

  • Winning projects through superior applications support By quickly understanding customer processes and constraints, designing robust Piab vacuum solutions, and providing clear technical justification that helps sales and partners close business.
  • Ensuring successful deployment and performance in the field By validating gripping concepts, supporting trials and commissioning (onsite/remote), and troubleshooting issues to secure stable operation, minimized downtime, and optimized energy usage.
  • Building regional expertise and reference cases By developing and sharing best practices, application notes, and success stories tailored to key regional segments (e.g. food, packaging, logistics, electronics, automotive), strengthening Piab's reputation as the preferred vacuum automation partner.
  • Acting as the technical voice of the customer By systematically feeding market and application insights from South East Asia, Far East and Oceania into product management and R&D, influencing Piab's roadmap to match regional needs and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical solution design
    • Analyse customer applications (robotic handling, packaging, palletizing, CNC/loading–unloading, etc.) and define optimal vacuum gripping/conveying solutions.
    • Size and select components (pumps, grippers, suction cups, fittings, sensors, accessories) and create BOMs.
    • Develop application concepts with Piab's tools
  • Customer & sales support
    • Support the sales team in pre‑sales activities: technical clarification, feasibility checks, cycle-time and energy calculations, ROI justification.
    • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, demos, and product trainings for customers, distributors, and internal staff.
    • Participate in customer visits, line audits, and design reviews; capture requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications.
  • Testing, validation, and commissioning
    • Run tests and trials on customer samples or in Piab's lab to validate gripping concepts and product performance.
    • Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of Piab solutions on customer sites (onsite or remote).
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and propose corrective actions and improvements.
  • Product & application expertise
    • Maintain deep knowledge of Piab's vacuum products, systems, and accessories, and how to apply them across core industries (e.g. automotive, packaging, logistics/warehousing, electronics, food).
    • Provide structured feedback from customers and applications to product management and R&D for roadmap and product improvements.
    • Contribute to application notes, best-practice guidelines, and reference designs.
  • Collaboration and documentation
    • Work closely with Regional/Global Sales, Key Account Managers, Product Management, and R&D in cross‑functional projects.
    • Prepare technical documentation: concepts, calculations, test reports, risk assessments, and commissioning reports.
    • Use CRM/CPQ tools to document opportunities, quotes, and technical decisions where required.
