The Role
As an Android Software Engineer, you'll own the Android mobile experience-shaping how AI feels, performs, and interacts with users. This is far more than a thin client role. You'll build a production-grade Android application where AI is at the core of the user experience, with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and usability.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain production Android applications using Kotlin.
- Integrate AI-powered capabilities such as chat, vision, voice, and recommendations through backend APIs.
- Design intuitive AI interaction patterns, including streaming responses, retries, and handling partial results.
- Optimise app performance, responsiveness, memory usage, and overall user experience for AI-intensive workloads.
- Implement analytics, logging, and user feedback mechanisms to support continuous AI improvement.
- Work closely with backend and machine learning engineers to define API contracts and system behaviour.
- Ensure the application remains secure, stable, and scalable in production.
What We're Looking For
- At least 3+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin.
- Experience integrating AI capabilities such as LLMs, computer vision, or speech APIs.
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous programming using Coroutines and Flow.
- Familiarity with REST or gRPC APIs and structured data formats.
- Strong debugging, profiling, and performance optimisation skills.
- Comfortable building systems that handle latency, partial failures, and non-deterministic AI behaviour.
- Experience with ML Kit or lightweight on-device inference is an advantage.
- Published Android applications on the Google Play Store are a plus.
