AI Technical Specialist (PhD needed)

About the Role

My client is a well-established IT/Technology Organisation and they are looking for an AI Technical Specialist to design, build, and deliver AI‑driven optimisation and supply chain solutions that translate advanced research into real‑world industrial impact.

In this role, you will work on challenging problems across enterprise planning, supply chains, and operations, applying state‑of‑the‑art AI, optimisation, data analytics, and Generative AI techniques to create scalable, production‑ready solutions. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on AI development, technical leadership, and close collaboration with industry stakeholders.

What You'll Do

• Develop bespoke, high‑performance algorithms for:

  • Production and resource scheduling

  • Inventory and capacity optimisation

  • Supply chain network design, planning, and forecasting

• Apply AI, optimisation, machine learning, and Generative AI (e.g. deep learning, NLP, GANs, data augmentation) to complex, real‑world operational problems.

• Lead technical solution design from problem definition through implementation and deployment, working closely with engineers and project teams.

• Bring state‑of‑the‑art AI approaches to industry‑ready maturity.

• Support industry engagements and collaborative projects across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, aerospace, energy, and transport.

• Mentor junior team members and contribute to building AI and digital supply chain capabilities.

What We're Looking For

• PhD in AI, Computer Science, Operations Research, Supply Chain Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related field.

• Strong background in:

  • Mathematical modelling and optimisation

  • Machine learning and data analytics

  • Algorithm design and scientific computing

• 3+ years of experience in applied R&D, AI solution development, or technical leadership roles.

• Proficiency in Python and/or C / C++ / C# (.NET), with experience using ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit‑learn.

• Experience in supply chain or enterprise optimisation (e.g. scheduling, network design, fleet planning) is highly desirable.

• Exposure to Generative AI, NLP, deep learning, GANs, or data generation techniques is a strong advantage.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
