Job Description

⇒ Position Objective

Our client, a leading FMCG enterprise operating across ASEAN, is seeking an Agentic AI & Automation Engineer to design, build, and deploy custom AI-powered solutions from scratch. The role sits within the Digital Commercial & AI team and spans two core areas: building autonomous agentic AI workflows, and developing intelligent automation pipelines that connect systems and eliminate manual processes across commercial and operational functions.

Initial engagement is 3 months, with strong likelihood of extension to 6-12 months for the right person.

⇒ Main Responsibilities

  • Design and build agentic AI workflows from scratch - including autonomous, multi-step agents capable of reasoning, decision-making, and acting across internal systems without human intervention.
  • Integrate LLMs with the client's existing decision intelligence backend using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCP, and structured knowledge base augmentation - not starting from zero, but building on a live data foundation.
  • Build and deliver specific AI agent use cases including a Pricing Agent, Route-to-Market Agent, Recruitment Agent, and Calling/Selling Agent that autonomously handles retailer outreach, cross-selling, and order completion.
  • Design and deploy end-to-end AI-powered automation workflows that eliminate manual, repetitive tasks across sales, HR, operations, and commercial functions - using tools such as n8n, Azure Logic Apps, or equivalent.
  • Connect automation pipelines to enterprise systems via REST APIs and webhooks - including CRM, ERP, HR platforms, and BI tools - ensuring reliable, production-grade integrations.
  • Own the full delivery lifecycle: scoping, architecture, build, testing, and handover - with full documentation and clear token/cost governance across all AI components.
  • Work in a fast-moving, agile environment across Malaysia and the broader ASEAN cluster, with the expectation of delivering a working solution within the first 3 months of engagement.

⇒ Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Credentials are secondary to a demonstrated ability to build and ship in production.
  • More than 3 years of hands-on experience building AI or automation solutions. Prior experience in FMCG, retail, B2B commerce, or a similarly fast-moving commercial environment is a strong advantage.
  • Proven ability to build agentic AI systems from scratch - not configuring off-the-shelf SaaS tools. Must be able to design agent logic, manage state, handle errors, and deploy independently.
  • Strong proficiency in Python. Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent), workflow tools (n8n, Power Automate, or equivalent), and prompt engineering in production contexts.
  • Solid understanding of RAG architectures: retrieval design, embedding pipelines, knowledge base structuring, and augmentation strategies for enterprise data environments.
  • Experience with Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Studio) and a working knowledge of LLM concepts including MCP, function/tool calling, token management, and cost optimisation.
  • Comfortable integrating with enterprise systems via REST APIs and webhooks. Can read documentation independently and build reliable connectors when off-the-shelf solutions fall short.
  • Strong delivery instinct: able to scope a use case, map the workflow, build a maintainable solution, and hand it over - without over-engineering or requiring extensive supervision.
  • Self-directed and output-focused. Comfortable operating in a lean team at pace, and capable of delivering a working solution within a 3-6 month engagement window.
