about the job

As a Data Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert in designing and maintaining robust data solutions that power national-level initiatives. You will take on a leadership role, making key technical decisions and providing scalable solutions for data generation, collection, and migration across the government ecosystem.

• Platform Engineering: Build and operate the core Whole-of-Government (WOG) data platform to support large-scale data initiatives.

• Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance data pipelines and automated ETL processes to migrate and deploy data across systems.

• Agency Integration: Actively support various government agencies in integrating their systems with the core data platform.

• Connector Development: Build efficient data connectors to onboard diverse agency datasets into the central ecosystem.

• Technical Leadership: Lead and manage team performance, taking responsibility for key decisions and providing architectural solutions for immediate and cross-functional teams.

• Data Quality & Governance: Ensure the highest standards of data quality, accessibility, and security across all collection and processing workflows.

• Strategic Contribution: Collaborate with multiple teams to contribute to key project decisions and troubleshoot complex data challenges.

skills and experience required

• Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Data Engineering is mandatory for this role.

• Data Lifecycle Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Data Migrations, Data Access, and Data Processing.

• Infrastructure Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in designing and operating complex Data Pipelines.

• Consultative Approach: Proven ability to support external stakeholders (agencies) in technical onboarding and systems integration.

• Leadership Qualities: Experience in managing teams, making high-level technical decisions, and solving problems at an enterprise scale.

• Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication skills to engage with multiple teams and contribute to cross-agency data strategies.
