Role Summary
UltreonAI is an AI Design Studio specializing in custo Agentic AI solutions for Singaporean SMEs. We build production-ready AI systems - intelligent automation platforms, RAG-powered knowledge systems, and workflow orchestration tools that solve real business problems.
As a Backend Developer , you'll be a core part of our engineering team, building the API infrastructure and business logic that powers these AI solutions, You'll work in a team to architect scalable backends that integradte with LLM pipelines, client data systems, and automation workflows. This is a hands-on role where you'll ship real client projects from day one.
What You'll build
- AI-Powered APIs: RESTful backends that serve AI agents responses, handle RAG retreival, and manage LLM inference endpoints for client applications
- Authentication & Access Control: Secure user authentication systems with JWT, sessino management, and role-based permission for multi-tenant client platforms
- Workflow Integrations: Backend service that connect to automation workflows via webhooks, enabling seamless data flow between client systems agents
- Business Logic & Validation: Ability to implement complex validation rules and business logic layers. Familiarity with validation libraries (Zod, Yup, or similar) is expected.
- Async Workflows: Experience handling asynchronous operations-webhook processing, background jobs, event-driven patterns, and managing long-running tasks without blocking API responses.
AI & Integration Context (Critical for Our Work)
- Supporting AI Systems: Understanding of how backends interact with AI pipelines. This includes: Building endpoints that call LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and handle streaming responsesIntegrating with vector databases for RAG architecture (Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar)Managing context preparation and prompt engineering via backend logicYou don't need to be an AI expert, but you should understand RAG conceptually and how backends feed data to LLMs.
- API Integration: Experience consuming third-party APIs (REST/GraphQL) and handling webhooks. Comfortable reading API documentation and debugging integration issues.
Infrastructure & Tools
Required Knowledge
- Redis: Understanding of caching strategies, rate-limiting patterns, and using Redis for session storage or job queues. Production experience is a plus, but willingness to learn is essential.
- Version Control: Proficient with Git/GitHub workflows-branching, pull requests, code reviews, and resolving merge conflicts.
- Linux Environment: Comfortable working in a Linux/Unix terminal for debugging, deployment, and server management tasks.
Good to Have
- n8n Integration: Experience with workflow automation tools. We use n8n extensively, but if you understand webhooks and event-driven systems, you'll pick this up quickly.
- Cloudflare Workers: Awareness of edge computing and serverless concepts. We deploy some services on Cloudflare Workers, but we'll teach you edge-aware design patterns.
- Event-Driven Systems: Experience with message queues (RabbitMQ, Bull) or event streaming (Kafka) for complex workflow orchestration.
- Performance Optimization: Ability to identify bottlenecks-slow queries, N+1 problems, inefficient caching. Understanding of API cost-awareness (monitoring LLM API usage, cloud service costs).
Education & Background
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
Application Details
- Work Arrangement: This is a full-time/part time hybrid working position with flexible working hours. Occasional in-person collaboration in office as needed for key project milestones.
- Probation Period: 6-month probation period to ensure mutual fit and alignment.
- Team Structure: You'll work in project-based teams rather than siloed departments, collaborating closely with Frontend Developers, Data Engineers, and AI Engineers.
