Description
The Adjunct Lecturer will teach and mentor Year 2 design students in multidisciplinary design practice, with a focus on service design, user experience, design thinking, and creative strategy. They will also guide students in developing innovative, user-centred solutions while strengthening their professional and industry-relevant skills.
The Adjunct Lecturer will be teaching one of the following modules,
Design Studio 2A (Semester 1: August-December, 14 weeks)
and
Design Studio 2B (Semester 2: January-May, 4 + 2 weeks).
- Design Studio 2A focuses on service design, customer experience, and design thinking in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural contexts. The unit develops creative problem-solving, collaboration, trend analysis, and presentation skills within Southeast Asian industry settings.
- Design Studio 2B focuses on allowing students to build on their service and experience design knowledge by applying human-centred design approaches to create sustainable and market-ready solutions. The unit focuses on research, strategy development, collaboration, and effective communication of design concepts.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Undertake contact/teaching hours per week in one of the above-mentioned modules.
- Deliver and facilitate studio-based teaching, workshops, and project activities.
- Develop lesson plans, assessments, project briefs, and teaching materials.
- Supervise and assess student projects, assignments, and presentations.
- Monitor and maintain records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
- Provide academic support, mentorship, and career guidance to students.
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement of the modules.
- Stay current with developments in design education, industry trends, and learning practices.
- Build and maintain industry partnerships and collaborative networks.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary projects, collaborations, and research activities.
- Support teaching across other programmes within the School of Art & Design when required.
- Undertake administrative and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Master's in Design or a related discipline, preferably with a PhD.
- At least 5 years of teaching experience and relevant working experience in the field.
- Proficiency in effectively delivering classes on a hybrid teaching platform, encompassing synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and contribute within a team-oriented teaching environment.
- Possess a positive, enthusiastic, and results-oriented approach to engage students and foster their learning.
- Display a cooperative and collaborative mindset, with strong interpersonal skills to work well within a team.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including clearly conveying ideas and instructions.
- A strong research or professional practice track record, demonstrating actual or potential contributions in their chosen field.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, effectively resolving challenges in the teaching and learning process.
