Account Manager - Marine Insurance
Overview
This role focuses on driving new business development within the marine insurance sector, with a strong emphasis on acquiring new clients. The successful candidate will have experience engaging with Lloyd's of London syndicates and managing relationships across brokers, underwriters, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities and manage a portfolio of marine insurance clients, ensuring strong service delivery and retention
- Assess risks related to vessels, cargo, and maritime operations, and structure appropriate insurance solutions
- Engage clients to understand their requirements and provide tailored coverage strategies
- Present, negotiate, and place marine insurance policies with underwriters to achieve optimal terms
- Build and maintain relationships with insurers, underwriters, and P&I Clubs
- Work closely with the Claims team to support efficient claims handling and client service
- Monitor claims processes to ensure timely resolution and compliance
- Stay abreast of market trends, emerging risks, and business opportunities in marine insurance
- Support continuous improvement of broking processes, workflows, and documentation standards
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and undertake ad hoc duties as required
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Maritime Studies, Law, Insurance, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in marine insurance or broking
- Experience working with underwriters, P&I Clubs, shipowners, or charterers is advantageous
- Certifications such as BCP and CGI are preferred additional marine insurance qualifications are a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Solid understanding of general insurance principles marine insurance knowledge preferred
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage documentation accurately
- Well-organised with effective time management and multitasking capabilities
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team-oriented with a professional and client-focused approach
- High level of responsibility, confidentiality, and reliability
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
