At a time when the COVID-19 outbreak has slowed down the businesses world over, companies are reducing marketing spends and taking a cautious approach in recruiting new hires. According to survey companies are likely to reduce the spending on recruitment in 2020 and the focus is on stepping up training and development activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the situation looks grim as far as employment opportunities are concerned, the Singapore government has taken several steps to support people who are financially impacted by the Coronavirus situation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The government launched a temporary relief fund to provide immediate relief to citizens and permanent residents who have lost their jobs or income loss due to the COVID-19 situation. According to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), eligible applicants will receive one-off cash assistance of $500 and will be open for applications from 1 to 30th April.<\/span><\/p>\n

To provide longer-term support, the government has announced the COVID-19 Support Grant. According to the scheme, the government will provide eligible Singaporeans $800 for three months to help them get back to normalcy.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, that\u2019s not enough. The government as part of the Resilience Budget to create more employment opportunities for job seekers and workers affected by the Coronavirus outbreak, Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Workforce Singapore (WSG), in collaboration with Public Service Division (PSD), have launched the #SGUnited Jobs – a Virtual Career Fair (VCF).<\/span><\/p>\n

The first VCF will run till 12 April 2020 and will feature more than 2,200 temporary jobs that are immediately available.<\/span><\/p>\n
