With Chinese New Year just around the corner, is it no doubt every office in Singapore is getting ready to amp up the mood with office festivities.<\/span><\/p>\n

While everyone gets busy spring cleaning, shopping for that new spring outfit for the office party and indulging in the snacks, let\u2019s do our part to ensure we\u2019re upstanding employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are a few things you should avoid doing to not ruin the office festivity<\/strong><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

Get drunk<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A company’s party never complete without alcohol. But whether you\u2019re getting access to free-flow alcohol at a bar or a classy restaurant, it\u2019s always important to drink within your means.<\/span><\/p>\n

To get completely smashed is doing yourself a great disservice in front of your bosses and colleagues. While judgement can get cloudy, you are also more likely to do something that may likely derail your career.<\/span><\/p>\n

A tip from us is to pace yourself throughout the evening. Stick to the same drink and avoid mixing different alcoholic drinks. Politely decline if you feel uncomfortable or nauseous at any point, and take a break if you need to.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also remember to drink loads of water – your body will thank you later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waste Chinese New Year snacks<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The list of Chinese New Year goodies is ever-expanding.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not every snack will appeal to you, so if you\u2019re trying new snacks for the first time, go easy on yourself by taking bite-sized pieces instead of grabbing a handful of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

This way you can avoid wastage and the terrible feeling of chomping down snacks you may not be enjoying.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do or say anything inauspicious<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Despite being a modern society, Chinese New Year is still regarded as a traditional festival. While most have gradually become less rigid about said traditions, be sure you\u2019re not committing the following acts that will upset a couple of your older colleagues:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25cf Wearing black, dark coloured or white clothings<\/span>
\n\u25cf Sweeping or cleaning the office<\/span>
\n\u25cf Breaking things around the office<\/span><\/p>\n

Try to peek at your colleague\u2019s Ang Pow money<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you do not like others looking into your Ang Pow or comparing their Ang Pow money with yours, chances are, your colleagues will feel the same way too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having said that, the act of receiving an Ang Pow isn\u2019t ever about the value, but the thought of your superior or bosses wanting to bless you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Talk about work<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Office parties are opportunities for employees to unwind and bond with one another.<\/span><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t want to be remembered as the party pooper or the negative nancy who cannot stop talking about the amount of work you still have to deal with<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Relax and recharge! Everyone deserves a break for having worked this hard over the last few weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n
